The 52s Album

Launch Show

7th May 2026

Venue
Piano Smithfield
London

In a cosy room in London the Hendon Project was released to the world. The album writing process started after founding members Vivekka Nagendran and Oli Dinwoodie discovered tapes of Vivekka’s great aunt singing traditional carnatic music.

Mixing these original recordings with the jazz and soul infused sounds of the band, the album started to take shape. The allbum creates a unique space for Vivekka to duet with her late great aunt and tell stories about the migration experience and finding roots in London.

UMA

There’s been a lot of love shown for our track, “Uma”, which features on our debut album, The Hendon Project. Built around a parliamentary sample from MP Uma Kumaran - the first Tamil MP in the UK - it sheds light on the struggles of the Tamil diaspora starting fresh in a new, unfamiliar environment. Carnatic samples from Pumma weave in and out of the track, creating a distant echo of a life left behind, and a life many in the community yearned for after arriving in London. But although the story is rooted in Tamil history, it resonates with multiple immigrant communities who have fled in search of safety and security. London has provided this safe haven for so many, and we couldn’t be prouder. “Uma” is a love letter to the City of London, and to the people that make it what it is.

Scrubbing Up - A Band of Frontline Workers

We love to scrub up in the good times, but we scrub up differently now.

As a band of doctors, teachers and a social worker who too often deal with the fallout from domestic abuse. It's getting worse during lockdown and we wanted to do something to help.

100% of the money raised through downloads and streams of our track heroine will go towards supporting the essential ongoing work of Women's Aid, Refuge UK and Respect UK. .
